PayPal
Reason for annoyance:"Legalised robbery now has two syllables. Convenient? Maybe. Safe - I don't think so." by Mercool McCaber About PayPal:PayPal is the convenient way to pay - at least, that's what they tell you.
The eBay owned payment network has a stranglehold over the C2C payment market - and eBay banning the likes of e-gold and Stormpay as payment methods (and sidelining the quality British company, NoChex) has helped to reinforce that position.
PayPal's own buyer protection rarely applies unless the seller has a ton of positive feedback.
The fees they charge are high - especially for micro-payments (as they have a steep per transaction fee) meaning that the poorest users are hit the hardest.
The real problems come about should you hit fraud on your account - they are woefully slow at dealing with problems of compromised logins, and it's frustrating to wait for seemingly ages on the phone for one of their clueless operators in the States to give you some half-arsed response, which seldom offers any sort of reassurance.
The company has an FSA registration in the UK - how the hell they manage to keep that given the number of complaints against them, and the stifling amount of fraud is a national disgrace. They should be banned from operating in the UK altogether until they clean up their act.
FACT: PayPal is more irritating than England Football Team but less irritating than Keith Harris and Orville
